591′s interior lighting is now working again. I’ve replaced 8 of the failed ballasts with some old and very expensive new ballasts. I’ve kept the old ones as I intend on stripping them down and seeing what failed in them.
A battery lead came off which sent a power surge through the bus and blew everything.

A build up of the AMT/Ertl Galileo II model kit.
Check out this video to see how to build your Galileo with lighting.
For the build, the model was assembled as per the instructions.
A small hole was drilled in the interior control panel at the center.
This was done to mount a single 5MM white LED in place for
the interior lighting. The wire for the LED is then run to the rear of
the model and a small notch was cut at the bottom of the rear interior
wall. This was to allow the wire to pass through to the rear compartment.
There a connector jack was installed . It was then wired to the forward LED
with a 150 ohm resistor in between. A fabbed cover of sheet styrene was
placed over the wiring at the floor and the model was assembled and painted.
A 4.5 volt DC power supply was added and we have a nice looking although
not totally accurate model of the Galileo Shuttle Craft with some cool
interior lighting.
Total cost less than $40 bucks for everything including the power supply.
This is a great kit for beginners to start with. There are not too many parts
and the painting needed is minimal. The decals are fairly large and not too difficult to work with. A great little kit that looks really good built up.
