Scion xA – Blue Interior Lighting

Posted by admin on Mar-11-2010

Just put in some cold cathodes and wired them up to a switch on my Scion xA. Nothing really special, but I do have more LEDs just waiting to find a home, so I might be adding more soon.
I’m thinking about putting LEDs in the cup holders, and have a separate set of LEDs wired up with the dome lights to come on when doors are open and off when they are closed…but where they will go is still up in the air.

Yea, I know my car isn’t fast. I don’t try to act like it is. So please if you’re just going to comment on how much Scions suck then don’t waste your time. =)

I got it from the …
I got it from the cig lighter. Use a multimeter to determine hot and ground, since the color of the wires is almost the same for both.

I just stripped some of the sheath and tapped the hot/grounds in and soldered+heatshrunk them. Makes a really good connection and provides enough power for all my cathodes and LEDs.

hey where did you get your power source from..
the battery???… cuz i was thinking about connecting it to the cig lighter, but i dont know which is better….

Never saw this comment, or I would have responded sooner.
The LEDs are powered directly by 12v. Just find a 12V line and tap in. Then tap the ground to any ground. I used the cigarette lighter power for my application, since I only want the lights on while I have the key in.
You need to keep the little inverter box that comes with the cathodes ,but you can snip off the molex connectors and just tap into a 12v line.

  13. ein311 Said,

Yea, I put an LED …
Yea, I put an LED strip in there along with the light.
You need to take off the silver pieces on the side, and then unscrew the box to take it out. The top light assembly will come out once the box is removed. The plug that connects to the light bulb comes out too.
You have some holes at the top to route the LEDs or whatever else you want to through that little casing.

Nice man, I was actually on Xoxide last night looking at the Cold Cathode kits, but how did you get around the whole power inverter deal and the wiring harness it has for computers? If I was putting this into my computer I could do it in my sleep, but I am stumped on this one. Thanks dude

  16. ein311 Said,

    I got the cathodes …
I got the cathodes from Xoxide for I think $20 for a bunch of cathode tubes and waterproof LEDs.
I got the on/off switch at Wal Mart. There’s a bunch more available at places like Lowe’s/Home Depot.
I wired the cathodes to my 12v power going to my cigarette adapter.
