    A GFCI will operate …
    A GFCI will operate properly on a 2 wire circuit. just get the line and load side correct. the newer ones won’t let you wire them incorrectly, they just won’t work. GFIC operates on the principle of measuring current flow of neutral and hot. you are also supposed to put a sticker on outlet stating GFCI not? grounded, I think they come in the box

    @freshwrx Usually the ground? terminal is used in the US too.

    @irish89055 That’s …
    @irish89055 That’s either water dripping or someone is frying? pork chops in the bathroom.

  4. irish89055 Said,

    most? 1960 wiring …
    most? 1960 wiring didn’t have a ground…. better get a plumber in there too…

    It actually does …
    It actually does not need to have a pigtail to the device as SKYFITSHEAVEN24 states,? but the plastic retainer that holds the screw to the GFCI is supposed to be removed allowing the yoke to make contact with the metal of the plaster ring.

  7. SkyFitsHeaven24 Said,

    That GFCI really …
    That GFCI really should be grounded directly to the box with a pigtail.? That can easily be done be using a special clip that attaches the pigtail to the side of the box. Grounding by the mounting screws alone is not enough unless the GFCI has mounting screws that are bonded to the device itself with metal clips.

  8. freshwrx Said,

    That must be a …
    That must be a american rule,? because in Canada the code says to bond to the ground terminal of the receptacle.

  9. GordonGFox Said,

    correct, a properly …
    correct, a properly installed GFCI will operate properly on an ungrounded system, it is just that? most simple testers cannot test an ungrounded GFCI

  10. HVACRSupply Said,

    That’s funny I …
    That’s funny I thought a GFCI would work on an? ungrounded system.

  11. GordonGFox Said,

    @electric103 agreed …
    @electric103 agreed,? you can allow the screw to make contact / ground for you but I prefer the pigtail method as it is more permanent

  12. soljonas Said,

    Since when can you …
    Since when can you ground? the outlet to a junction box?

  13. Megawatts37 Said,

    GROUND CLIPS ARE …
    GROUND CLIPS ARE ILLEGAL NOW. Then been illegal since 1999 NEC. Ungrounded GFI? will still trip if using a wiggly tester.

  14. UltraEpicLoser Said,

    @freshwrx Yeah, I …
    @freshwrx Yeah, I was always taught to ground(bond) the box, and the receptacle, in some cases even switches. I think its? safer(er) that way.

  15. SteveK99Sub Said,

    I have a knob and …
    I have a knob and tube wired? box. Just two wires. Will a GFCI outlet work on a system like that? What is the proper outlet to use on a setup like this where you are within 10 ft of water and it requires GFCI?
