ASSUMING you had a fork with TWO (2) prongs and stuck one fork prong in each ‘charged’ socket at the EXACT same time? Shouldn’t the electricity travel through the path of least resistance? Isn’t the path of least resistance through the fork, and into the other hole?
(I’m not talking about the ground wire hole)

As stated, IF you hit both contacts at the EXACT same time you would not get shocked. However, you would get a bad burn since the fork would get very hot very fast. If you were off by just a nanosecond (very short period of time), you get shocked and burned.
Been there, done that.

Electrical Plugs installation for custom LED light strings (socket stringer cord).

ImaginaryColours.com presents an instructional video on how to properly install the slide-on type of plugs on your custom light strings. This is an important video to watch. Many people put plugs on incorrectly. The funny thing is, if you connect the wires backward, the lights will still work. However, you will have inadvertently disabled the inherent safety mechanism provided by the Neutral conductor.

How can I hook up interior lights to the cigarette lighter in my car?
